A Map of Metrolinx’s Big Move

With such an interest in public transit, I wanted to amalgamate the various transit systems of the GTHA into one comprehensive map. I took the existing systems of public transit and created a unified whole where rapid transit options (subway, LRT, BRT) were represented equally. I included all published projects regardless of their status as rapid transit, construction, funding, and in some cases even approval. The map, however, is still faithful to what is (or was) planned and draws from visions of GTHA transit such as those in Transit City, the Big Move, and some fantasy maps. I’ve taken some freedoms to merge, rename, or extend proposed projects such as the merger of Brampton Züm’s Queen West and East lines with York’s VIVA Orange and Purple lines into a continuous Highway 7/Queen Street line. Each line is uniquely identified by a colour and an alphabet character or number. Interchanges with more than three services have the name and address of the station and the interchanging services. In future iterations of this project I hope to separate the GO Transit lines and make them more integrated into the system, make identifiable different modes of rapid transit such as LRT and BRT, and to make the overall design aesthetic clearer, more legible, and more refined.
